Home is Where the Heart is

Something that rings so true, but that can oftentimes be forgotten or muddled in the midst of our day to day.

Home is where the heart is.

Home is where the heart is.

My sister-in-law is moving off to college in a few months and recently celebrated quite the American turning of age.

In light of these two special milestones and taking advantage of my recent creative return, I felt it only necessary to make her something special. And practical, of course, too.

She’d been tossing around decor ideas for her future room and in true Tiffany fashion, I figured I could kill two birds with one (homemade and heartfelt) stone.

Cute, catchy and thoughtful. That’s exactly the type of quote I was searching for. Then it hit me. Home is where the heart is. Perfectly fitting.

Designed from scratch, the print at its base holds one of her favorite colors, yellow, to lay a foundation of comfort, while the neutral complimentary grey tones allow it to shine just shy of overwhelming the meaningful words.

A thoughtful phrase to comfort while she’s away packaged into a lovely piece of decor. Two birds? Most definitely.

Real Wedding: Jodee + Alex’s Rustic Wedding Stationery

wedding stationery TD17

Burlap and kraft paper. I’m in crafting heaven.

Jodee and Alex were married this past weekend and what a lovely affair it was.

Leading up to the nuptials I had the honor of creating their wedding stationery.  The wedding featured burlap textiles and khaki tones with soft pink accents all in a gorgeous outdoor setting complete with my very favorite flower: baby’s breath.

So much fun it was to be a part of their special day, from planning the details, making their stationery, celebrating at her bridal shower, partying during the bachelorette weekend, coordinating on the day of, and most of all, standing at her side as they said “I do.”

I can’t wait to see their photos to relive the day with them over and over, but for now we can enjoy the stationery.

Home Decor: Cozy Spaces

It’s been pretty chilly for us Southern Californians lately.  We’re not used to much weather other than sunny and warm most of the year.  But this winter has been exceptionally cool compared to the last few years.

The tile floors, no working heater and no fireplace in our house is making me dream of cozy spaces.  A quick Pinterest search will do the trick.  Here are just a few of my current cozy space favorites:

My New Rosemary Plant!

Since we moved into our new place, I had been wanting to get a small rosemary plant for our picnic table.  I had the perfect pot in mind that I had been meaning to paint for a couple of years.  Don’t ask why it took me that long to actually do it.  It’s probably because I had nothing to put in it, until now!

The pot I am talking about was gifted to me with a flower in it (that of course I killed, darn my black thumb) and bright pink and green with swirly flowers painted all over.  Don’t get me wrong, it was cute, but if you know me at all you would know that’s not my style.  Paint can fix that.

So paint away I did and in about 20 minutes it was ready for my new rosemary plant.  It really softens the rough table and looks great out on the patio.

Now the challenge is to keep the plant alive!  We eventually want to build above ground planters to start a veggie garden.  How’s your hand at gardening?

Home Decor: Olioboard

We’re taking a break from our regularly scheduled Thursday programming to show you something I’m really excited about. To be honest, I didn’t have a Doggy Diaries post ready for today, but I am still excited about Olioboard!

I heard about Olioboard on the Nate Berkus show the other day and just had to check it out.

It’s pretty awesome.  It allows you to create moodboards for anything; dragging and dropping items from the pre-loaded library into your digital room.  You can upload your own photos to your private library which will be saved in your account too.  And you can even purchase some of your favorite items online from the pre-loaded library.  It’s so much fun to play around with textures, colors and furniture!

They’ve just updated the background and texture galleries to include better and more options.  The background from my design above was newly added and I love it!  The rustic wood flooring, brick walls and industrial ceiling lights are awesome!

The board above is my first attempt to design an office.  I love the neutral tones (of course) and industrial pieces paired with the modern chevron rug.  Throw in some fresh flowers and maybe a couple bright, comfy floor pillows and you’ve got a great home office!

Check out Olioboard for yourself and have some fun designing!  What rooms in your home would be the challenges to tackle with Olioboard?
